Your BCD (buoyancy control device) holds your cylinder, carries your weights and lets you float, sink and hover exactly where you want. We stock jacket-style, back-inflation and travel BCDs from Scubapro, Mares, Apeks and more, in sizes for every diver.

Questions about BCDs - Buoyancy Control Devices

What's the difference between a jacket and a back-inflation BCD?

A jacket BCD wraps around your sides and keeps you upright on the surface, which many newer divers find reassuring. A back-inflation BCD puts the air behind you, so you sit more horizontally underwater with less bulk at the front.

What size BCD do I need?

BCD sizes are based mainly on chest and waist measurements, and each brand has its own size chart. Bear in mind you'll wear a thick wetsuit or drysuit in Irish waters. If you can, call into the shop to try one on, or ring us and we'll help you choose.

      Do I need integrated weights?

Integrated weight pockets mean you can do without a weight belt, which is more comfortable and easy to ditch in an emergency. Most of the BCDs we sell have them built in.

Can I buy a BCD and regulator together?

Yes. Our BCD and regulator packages put a BCD, regulator, octopus and gauge together for less than buying them separately.
