Finished Your Open Water? What equipment should you buy now?
Congratulations!! You are now part of the global diving world!
So, you have just learnt how to dive. What an amazing experience it was to take your first steps into diver-hood, but now it's time to start thinking about your own equipment. Your instructor was probably wearing some pretty dope gear like BCD Wings, colourful or strange looking fins, a suit that DOES'T get wet or maybe a dive computer that they can use for all the other crazy sports they do. But where to start?
Here at Aquaholics we understand that buying your first-time diving gear can be overwhelming. What brand should you go for? What regulators should you use if you are diving in cold water? What's the difference between the Suunto Ocean and the Suunto D5?
We won't jump into the deep end just yet. . . Let's start with something easy. Masks! You've practiced your skills with your mask so now you have the skills to clear and defog the rented one you used during your course. But perhaps it just didn't fit right and leaked water every time you turned your head. Maybe the colour just wasn't you. Having your own mask makes a BIG difference between a good dive or a rubbish one. So let's discuss a few. . .
A very popular mask for all divers is the SCUBAPRO Synergy Twin Mask and Snorkel Set. The Synergy Twin benefits from SCUBAPRO’s first-generation Trufit Technology. This design approach features a mask skirt with a thicker, firmer silicone near the mask frame to provide support and rigidity, and thinner silicone contouring the face for comfort and to ensure a watertight seal.
Offered as the perfect companion to SCUBAPRO’s Spectra mask, the Spectra Dry’s large-bore upper tube allows plenty of airflow, and its dry top keeps splashing surface water from entering the airway. An efficient purge valve expels any water that might seep in. The flexible lower tube hangs down and out of the way when not being used.
Another popular mask is the Scubapro Devil Dive Mask with EZ strap. A mouthful to say but you can't deny this mask looks good! This updated single lens mask offers excellent field of vision, a durable Ultra Clear lens, and super-soft silicone skirt that blocks out light reflection – a huge plus for photographers. The design of the nose pocket makes it easy to equalize while descending. The mask comes with an EZ-Open mask strap, and is also compatible with SCUBAPRO’s line of Comfort Straps.
Now for the third mask and quite possible the best if you ask some divers. The TUSA Zensee Mask. TUSAs first frameless scuba diving mask, complete with our innovative technology, panoramic view, and lightweight design.
